Harbourcross - New public consultation

Wind Ventures, the developer behind the Harbourcross wind energy proposal in the Torridge district of Devon, has taken the unusual step of extending the period of consultation with the communities that live and work within the area of the proposed development.

The proposal for five wind turbines to the north east of Meddon could generate enough renewable electricity to power around over 5,550 homes. Wind Ventures will also set up a community benefit fund of around £20,000 to £30,000 per year for the operational life of the wind farm (25 to 30 years). The community can manage this fund and decide how it is spent for the benefit of all local people.

Ross Glover, Managing Director of Wind Ventures, said: "We have been speaking with the community around the Harbourcross site for some months but, our own research shows that many within the community still have a limited understanding of what we propose. As a responsible developer we believe that it is important that we engage with the local community effectively.

"We now recognise that we need to enhance our approach. This is why we have taken the decision to extend consultation about our proposal before any planning application is submitted, to make sure that everyone who lives or works near this site has the opportunity to understand exactly what we are proposing, and what it could bring to the local community.

"We will be looking to meet as many people locally as possible, and all opportunities to get involved with this new period of consultation will be properly communicated with plenty of notice. It's crucial to us that as many people as possible have accurate information, so that they can draw their own conclusions about the proposals."

Over the coming weeks, Wind Ventures will announce details of consultation events which will be open to all communities around the Harbourcross site.

Harbourcross public exhibition

Thursday 10 November, midday to 7:30pm
Appraisal work on the proposed wind farm at Harbourcross is nearing completion. Before making a planning application, Wind Ventures is holding an exhibition where you can view information on the proposed wind farm and the environmental assessment work that has taken place. Wind Ventures staff and members of the environmental consultant team working on the site will be present to answer any questions. Should you have additional information regarding the site relevant to the proposal, you may raise this at the exhibition so that it can be considered as part of the planning application.

Looking beyond the planning application, Wind Ventures would like to hear views on how a Community Development fund could best be applied. For the current proposal, this fund would be approximately £20,000 per year for the life of the wind farm (25 to 30 years). If you know of any local projects that could be enhanced or started with this funding, please let us know.
