Bodinfinnoch

Site Statistics
Location 4km to the east of Mulben, Moray
Project size Up to 6 turbines
Turbine height Up to 126m
Potential Capacity Up to 15MW

Wind Ventures has been looking at the suitability of developing a new wind farm to the east of Mulben, Moray. The proposed wind farm will be made up of up to 6 turbines which will be up to 126m high and will be at 15MW, providing enough renewable energy for over 6,250 homes *.

We believe that the proposed Bodinfinnoch wind farm will play a role in meeting the tough renewable targets set by the government and to help tackle climate change.

What stage is the project at?

We have submitted a planning application to The Moray Council for the erection of 6 wind turbines, a permanent meteorological mast, substation, external transformers, temporary construction compound and access tracks, hardstanding areas and associated infrastructure. The planning application includes a full environmental impact assessment which includes studies such as:

  • Ecology (including ornithology)
  • Landscape and visual impact assessment
  • Noise and vibration
  • Archaeology and cultural heritage
  • Transport, traffic and access

The planning application has been lodged under the following number:

11/01509/APP

A temporary meteorological mast has been on site since October 2010 and site wind speeds have been measured since then, proving that the site has sufficient wind for a successful wind farm.

* Stated figure is calculated using a capacity factor of 25.4%, taken from 'Energy Trends', (DECC, September 2011). Average household energy usage taken from 'Sub-national authority electricity consumption statisitcs' (DECC, 2010).

Capacity Factor: A constant which takes into account the intermittent nature of wind, the availability of wind turbines and array losses (energy lost due to 1 turbine being in the wake of another) compared to the full load plate rating of the generator
