Poll Lochaig

Site Statistics
Location 7km North East of Tomatin
Project size Up to 9 turbines
Turbine height Up to 126m
Potential Capacity Up to 27MW

Wind Ventures has been looking at the suitability of developing a new wind farm to the north east of Tomatin, south east of Inverness. The proposed wind farm will comprise of up to 9 turbines, up to 126m tall and would produce approximately 51.36 million units of electrical power (kWh) per year, equivalent to the consumption of 12,500 homes.

The Poll Lochaig wind farm can play a role in meeting the tough renewable energy targets set by the government, and help tackle climate change.

What stage is the project at?

In October 2011, we submitted a planning application to allow the erection of a temporary meteorological mast at the site to Highlands Council. We are currently carrying out environmental appraisal work, the results of which will be submitted, together our planning application, to Highlands Council for their scrutiny. Ongoing survey and evaluation study topics include:

  • Habitats and protected species
  • Noise
  • Landscape and visual impact
  • Peat and hydrology
  • Archaeology and cultural heritage

The findings of these studies will be made available via our website, and a public exhibition which will be held prior to the submission of a planning application for the scheme. The planning application and supporting documents will also be publicly available once the application has been submitted to Highlands Council.
