Renewable Energy Targets
The Government's Renewable Energy Strategy states that the ambitious target of generating 15% of all the UK's energy from renewables by 2020 means that 35-45% of electricity will have to come from green sources. The lion's share of these renewables will have to be wind, some 33GW of capacity. This is projected to be split evenly between on- and offshore wind.
As at October 2011, the UK had 5.7GW of wind farm capacity, both on and offshore.
